Two very distinct differences between little dog and big dog.
BIG DOG=To run or walk will take much more effort.
little dog=Throwing a ball in a room as you sit until it tires does the trick.
BIG DOG=BIG POOP
little dog=you get it
Plus small dogs serve as lap warmer, cordless vac and snuggle bunny. Plus they eat less.

So binary. I am very much a medium sized dog person. Somewhere between the 40-50 lb range is perfect. They are big enough to be a useful working dog if that is what you are looking for, still small enough to easily pick up if necessary, you can scritch em on the head without having to bend over, and they can keep up with you if you want to take them on a run or a bike ride. Small enough that even if they decide they really want to chase that bunny they aren’t likely to yank the leash out of your hand.
