I visited in 2001- after the peace accords - and it was still surreal.

We had a guide who explained the marking on the various buildings which were signals that the police should not enter.

That said, the pubs sure were fun.

For those people who are opposed to profiling for potential terrorists, saying that it is “racist,” or “how would you like to be profiled?,” I would say that if I had visited Ireland or G.B. during “the troubles,” I would have certainly fit the description of a potential terrorist - a young man, Catholic, & of Irish descent.
