I also expect they’ll be kept facing India.

Pakistan and India, India and Pakistan, are glued to each other. Break that fixation (somehow) and it would free Pakistan to deal with its western border.

Actually, India should tell Pakistan to go for it. That way, if Pakistan gets mauled a little, India has a stronger hand.

If Pakistan wins, then the Taliban are dealt with and India still has a stronger hand: India has conciliated good will AND had a potentially dangerous situation eliminated.
