I just thought of this song and video—worth watching, even for those of you who don’t speak any Hebrew, the video pretty much says it all. Tear-jerking, but beautiful, and a love song to the guys going in to Gaza right now.
The lyrics, translated:
In the middle of the night in the village,
I light another cigarette before a checkpoint.
I’m guarding, and a cleric sings from Ramallah
Between people in black
I pass another fence that is difficult to cross
I am found between Elchader and Beit Jalla
It’s the middle of the night
and perhaps it is already late.
you’re not calling
then maybe I’ll come tomorrow.
look at the clouds
Now they’ve painted themselves gray
because of our situation
In the middle of the night in the village,
the moon illuminates to me time that passed.
In the passageway, a soldier is praying
(L’Cha Dodi Likrat Calah)
The smell of the fires,
And again it’s hard to see.
The screen of fog accompanies us
It’s the middle of the night…
The minute before the dawning
the morning lights and the night has passed
I return and it still sings from up there
