The Franken thing is really tough. When men have been excused forever of bad behavior with “boys being boys” or “context matters” and I have agreed with those who have said “enough is enough,” I find myself wanting to say with Charles that it is awful to have acted in such a boorish and unthoughtful way, but it’s really not the same as trolling malls for young teen girls or Harvey’s rapes or Louis CK’s exposure and masturbation. What’s tough is that many of my liberal friends—especially women—are not bending at all on this. And I understand. If we are going to change things overall there can’t be tolerance, and Charles made clear that there should be consequences. But I can’t help but feeling that something is going wrong here. Maybe I like and respect Al too much as a politician now and hate the idea that we may lose him. I’m confounded. I know I can say that here. I get no sympathy in other places I have posted my thoughts—I’m an apologist for bad male behavior. I’ll say no more. Just wanted to vent a bit.
