Actually, some kid came up with a heat-collecting or reflecting roof based on the sun’s angle. There might be something to it … aren’t adobes desirable in the Southwest in part due to the color reflecting some of the light/heat bandwidths? That and the thick walls.

I like adobe houses, because of the insulating value of the brick, and the general look of them. There are plenty of them in New Mexico that don’t look like adobes, though, because they’ve had a pitched composition roof added, along with some kind of siding, like aluminum or vinyl. With those the only clue is the deep windowsills and door openings.
