There will be serious consequences if the US does not stop the test or chooses not to shoot it down. Consequences such as:

Lil Kim’s major propaganda success.
NoKo & Iran improving their ballistic missile technology.
Japan, South Korea & Taiwan all building their own nuclear weapons.
China being extremely unhappy at Taiwan getting nuclear weapons and preemptively invading the island to stop it from happening.

This could result in the worst loss of US prestige in the region since the Vietnam War.
