Don’t forget, Rommel was soon to die for his part in trying to assassinate Hitler. Whatever part he played in Nazi Germany, he made that much restitution before, well, the Judgement, at any rate.

I don’t think of Rommel as a truly evil figure of that time; he was an effective German soldier, not a Nazi fanatic. Of course, he should have known better; but at least he eventually woke up, to some degree.
