Gas prices have the potential to dominate the headlines for the foreseeable future, but how exactly is the President of the US (whoever it is) supposed to affect the market? No president has that kind of power, and releasing the SPR for a market fluctuation isn’t going to change the price considering the amount of oil consumed daily.

Opening up new areas to drilling wont reduce prices in the short term either, nor does it mean that new gas supplies occur instantaneously.

It takes years before new wells come on line, new refineries get built, etc.

So we are going to have to deal with higher energy prices - as a result of the economy slowly improving that increases demand, which in turn acts as a brake on economic growth since the cost for energy is a drain on the economic expansion and reduces funds that can be spent on other goods and services.
