And this isn’t theoretical. There is a lot of rape that goes on in the military. It’s been a constant struggle to deal with it, and we’re nowhere near on top of the problem.

Something like 1 in 10 of supported (as in, the woman testifies, gives evidence, etc.) sexual assault charges in the military are ever taken to a court martial. I really doubt that 9 out of 10 women in the military are just making it up when they say they’ve been assaulted, and I really doubt that can be explained by not being able to make a case, either.

So this bill will really, actually prevent a woman who joined the military and served her country, risking her life, who wound up getting raped by a fellow soldier, from getting an abortion if that rape makes her conceive. She may be forced to bear her rapists child, and her rapist is unlikely to ever suffer any punishment whatsoever.
