you may be right. but the best option is for you to not need a union - ask anyone who’s been in a union (and been halfway competent).

there is very little that’s fair about being ranked below someone because they’ve managed to not get fired yet and joined the company before you did.

Consistent excellence is far more difficult to maintain in the absence of a meritocracy.

Here’s my thing on unions right here:

Which is more important?
A) being paid more than a worse worker next to you
B) having health care and working conditions that are defended by collective bargaining

Clearly unions can go too far, like any human institution they can be corrupted, but right now unions are weak in America, and need to be stronger. Balance of power is wildly in favor of corporations and against unions currently. I believe it needs to change.
