Exactly. And the fact that the top 5% pay 50% of the taxes is basically unavoidable. Even if you were to fix income tax at 1%, the billionaires among us would still contribute the vast majority of tax money collected.

Tax the $50,000/year earner at 1% and he pays $500. Tax the $5,000,000/year earner at 1% and he pays $50,000. Using the logic of comparing tax burden using the total money paid, the millionaire paid 100x “more taxes” even though both paid 1% of income. That’s why the “5% pay 50% of all taxes” statistic is meaningless bullshit.
