As noted above, this hearing would have been a fine capper to impeachment hearings, having John Dean there to offer historical context on the whole matter. A man who had been a major player in Watergate offering his opinions. But instead it’s offering us a picture into a party that doesn’t seem to want to actually do anything other than drag the matter out. And in doing such, they’re giving all sorts of ammo to the opposition who are saying that this is a farce intended simply to hurt the reelection chances of an otherwise “successful” president.

That tactic certainly worked for the GOP in dragging out the Benghazi investigations.
