She would not joke about this, it’s that simple. With her ORU academic background and life-long fundamentalism, Bachmann quite literally lives in a different world. To her, as to other fundy supernaturalists, there is nothing odd or crazy about the idea of God routinely intervening in daily events, let alone the natural world.
It works the other way, too. Many of these people believe there are demons swarming around us all the time, waiting for some opportunity to do us a bad turn. I’ve mentioned the fundy I knew who would ascribe red light running and other reckless driving to demons trying to kill him rather than to dumbasses not paying attention. This is by no means unusual.
