re: #77 Joshua Cohen

OT: Anybody a suggestion for a good and up to date CAD program? That runs under Linux? Is 3D capable? Has a native user interface?
Something like Catia…ProE…Inventor…Solidworks…that can animate motions and do some FEM calculations? Has useful part libraries?

And yes I am willing to pay for such a thing, but I am not longer willing to use VM or even a real Windows for only that task.

You might check into DesignCAD- does everything you mentioned for (usually) less than $100. It has pretty extensive import/ export capabilities too, although I don’t believe it can deal with Catia, Solidworks or ProE (although few packages for unde about $8-9K will). It’s Windows based, but as I understand it that should run under Linux(?). I bought the DOS based 2D version about 25 years ago and have kept it updated. I’ve been happy with it, used it for machine shop drawings, free-lance computer enclosure design, etc.
