It’s the kind of Nanny-state nonsense that could happen here if we’re not careful.

Personally, I think the parents are nuts. A child that young is not as strong—physically and mentally—as a 17-year-old child and could be subjected to all kinds of predators out there. However, I don’t know the details of her projected trip—perhaps she will be shadowed closely by those who can protect her from assholes.

Remember the story several years ago of the little girl - I believe she was about 7 - who attempted a solo flight cross-country? She was accompanied by her father and her flight instructor but she had total control of the plane. It crashed, killing all three of them. The idiot mother didn’t even seem all that upset - she was happy that her kid died fulfilling her dream. Me, I don’t want my kid to die. I’m funny like that.
