Nobody could have predicted…

Yep. I consider that troop thing a gaffe of sorts. A huge gaffe. I’ll defend him on general principle in thinking that he does think the troops are important. But. And there’s the big but. His chance to redeem himself was handled poorly and by himself. Poorly worded and if I were him I’d at least come back and further clarify on this point.
