Yep that’s what I figure too. Bernie’s had a very easy ride in Vermont where for most of his career even the Republicans weren’t whacko. Meanwhile Kaine had to run against an opponent who ran ad basically saying he wouldn’t have wanted the perpetrators of the Holocaust punished due to his personal opposition to the DP.

Yep, and he rose from a city council spot to the appointed mayor of Richmond (at the time, the Mayor of Richmond was appointed from within the city council, nowadays it’s an elected position), to Lieutenant Governor, to Governor, and is now an United States Senator.

I am too young to remember how become Lieutenant Governor, but I would put points towards political savviness and being smart.
