I recall walking in Chicago sometime during the early 80’s (maybe late 70’s?) when there was a -25°F real temperature.
That was probably 1977-78, the winter I decided to move to Arizona.
That was preceded by 4” of freezing rain, topped with 4” of snow and then 4” inches of sleet: a perfect shit sandwich that shut the town down for days. I recall car alarms going off all night up and down the street because the contacts froze, contracted and separated.
