To me it was a pretty clear condemnation of the media’s ghoulishness in speculating endlessly about death. If the media’s approach was actually reasonable, her comment might have been weird, but the media was hungrily discussing death death death as usual.

The media was discussing death death death because we were about to invade Iraq, though. Sure, they’re The Media and They’re Jackals, and They Hunger, but they were hungering on the eve of a war, which, as garbage as the media is, is actually a really big worrisome deal that the Bush Sr. Administration set into motion. And the dismissive attitude, it all leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There were a lot of ordinary people who were worried about Iraq for non-media reasons.
