Did it go with a bang, or a whimper? When I’ve experienced PSU death, it’s usually just been a matter of suddenly powering off and then either not coming back on at all, or doing so only for a short time, and intermittently.

However, the most recent one was actually pretty spectacular. Several VERY loud bangs as capacitors exploded, accompanied by brilliant blue sparks and the unmistakable smell of burned electronics. Astonishingly, it didn’t take any other components with it when it went.

You never want to let out the magic smoke. The stuff’s expensive, and hard as hell to wrangle back into those itty bitty metal jars.
