That would be an interesting theses in some government studies program: The effect of ending the draft on military experience for presidents.

It’s quite interesting since I don’t think any of the previous presidents with military service were drafted. And really they were all officers too. I can’t think of a President who was an NCO. We did have a brief period though after the Civil War generation of presidents died out after McKinley though. No president from Wilson through FDR had military experience.
