I don’t think it really matters. the problem is that any of them are being forced to shut down. Like any other business they should do their best to survive and those that can’t will close. From what I hear there are profitable dealerships that are being shut down with no recourse. Just wrong.

The thing I can’t figure out is how closing dealerships, which are independently owned, helps the automakers. They have no costs associated with operating extra dealerships. They’re actually probably going to reduce their sales volume. Makes no sense to me.

Now, if the automakers own a core group of dealerships somebody please wise me up. But if they were closing independents to drive business to their own stores, I’d expect howls from the antitrust people, and rightly so.
