The Birthday Paradox: take any random group of 23 people (or 30, depending on who is doing the math explanation) and there is a 50% chance that two have the same birthday.

There are a lot of folks who delight in elaborately debunking it, but I’ve found it to be fairly accurate through the years.

I don’t doubt the birthday paradox but I still have never actually met someone who shares my birthday. My birthday was on my maternal grandparents’ anniversary though so that counts for something I guess. I have seen it in action though. My mom and my uncle, my dad’s brother share the same birthday. I realized there’s a lot of people in my family with their birthday around that time and then I subtracted nine months. Pretty obvious heh what was going on.
