All the things I used to like about the Catholic church are gone. Classic hymns, choirs, a simple organ, altar boys with throat slashers/catch trays during communion…they don’t even ring the bells when the priest holds up the chalice anymore.

I feel the same way.
In small towns, you can still find an old priest who will have the bells rung at communion. The patens are no longer needed because people take communion in their own hands

When I was growing up, it was like a mortal sin to touch the communion host. I had one get stuck at the top of my mouth once, and reached in to pry it loose. I never confessed it; I was certain I would be ex-communicated or something. Can you picture the scandal - 7 year old is ex-communicated for touching the host!
