I see it largely as vanity legislation—it gives them a wedge for assorted challenges to legal abortion—in fact, it makes legal abortion essentially impossible in the state—but it also allows them to feel extremely pure and virtuous. It also provides an infinite variety of opportunities for harassment and persecution, which will, in turn, up their sense of purity and virtue. They won’t monitor everyone—they can’t, they don’t have the resources, and they won’t want to bother. What they WILL do with this is what we’ve seen already—start an investigation of a woman who comes into the ER miscarrying, prosecute women who attempt suicide while pregnant, that sort of savory little witch-hunting behavior. Small, but devastating to a few lives, and chilling to others.

And meanwhile, BOY do the folks behind this get to feel good about themselves!

True enough. And, when women are getting arrested on suspicion of “murder” after having a miscarriage or attempting suicide, it’ll give the “Small Government” crusaders something new to bitch about.
