I like Simon Schama. I loved his History of Britain series. But yeah not too many good guys in that and that is often the case in history. We want to believe in good guys and bad guys but history often tells the stories of people doing some not good things.

Schama’s Citizens was a major research aid in my paper on the Jacobins and the institutionalization of violence before and during the Terror.

Also, one of the most depressing and bloody things I have ever read. I had to put it down a couple times and walk away for a day.
