I would have voted straight Republican certainly from 1856 to 1872. 1876, I don’t know. It’s certainly a fact that Tilden was robbed by one of the most egregious political conspiracies in history—thanks Dan Sickles!—but I don’t know enough about his and Hayes’ respective positions to say whom I would have voted for. That is when the Republican party lost its soul, though.
