As if all the corporations in America are going to give up those Hispanic dollars to satisfy some “speak English or get the fuck out” biker-bar fantasy vision of America.

I had a student a couple of years ago who spoke good Maya. We could set up a customer service translation chain, like the one Cortes used to talk to Montezuma.

(Cortes spoke Spanish to one of his men, who translated into Maya. This dude spoke to Malinche, who translated from Maya to Nahuatl. Montezuma responded in Nahuatl, whereupon the whole chain went back to Cortes.)

And yeah. It’s odd how people imagine that companies are going to give up good money to satisfy some sort of ‘the way it’s supposed to be’ fantasy.
