I do have a chemistry math/energy question. It takes a certain amount of energy to split water. Would it be about the same or a dramatically different amount of energy to split the C out of methane? Which of course would leave us with carbon in it’s black solid state and H only…

So the binding energy for hydrogen in methane is less than it is for water IIRC, but why would you want to to do this. Also, to do this you would need to catch the methane first. Which is a real problem. You really can’t just suck it all out of the atmosphere with some large facility or a thousand or even ten thousand such facilities.

Even if you could, unless you are running those facilities off of something other than fossil fuels to power them, you still haven’t fixed anything.
