Incidentally, it was none other than Solicitor General Robert Bork who carried out the order to fire Cox after AG Richardson and deputy AG Ruckelshaus both refused and resigned in protest. This was a major, but now almost forgotten, issue when Bork’s SCOTUS nomination failed in 1987.

IIRC, Bork’s SCOTUS nomination by Reagan was, in part, ‘payment’ for Bork having been a good GOP hack back in the day. These scumbags.
