Fair enough. They pay her to show up and say “God Bless America, don’tcha know.”

She doesn’t show up (for whatever reason) keeps the money.

I would qualify that as duping them.

Of course, if you want to get technical. She is the dupe. From dictionary.com

Dupe:
2. a person who unquestioningly or unwittingly serves a cause or another person: a dupe of the opponents.

She’s helping the Democratic cause more than she’s helping the Republican cause.
