The issue is not energy use. It is byproducts of energy use, or just plain population.
That was the puppeteer planet story - they used so much energy (from fusion and maybe antimatter anihilation) and had so many waste products, that the input from the sun became an inconvenience, and anyway they were an old race and their sun was starting to expand, so they first moved the planet outwards, and then moved it entirely away from the home star!
BTW, you have any links for the effects of increased CO2 on respiration? Google doesn’t seem to be leading very easily to anything useful.
