You’re Joe American with a CCW and a handgun on you. You happen to be on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay and know there is an active shooter at the end of the hall.

So you decide to make the decision to try and stop him (boneheaded, I know but let’s just go with this).

Obviously the shooter isn’t going to let you in to the room. Trying to shoot through the wall isn’t the best idea. The easiest way would be to break through the door.

Even if you somehow manage to do this (guess what? Most hotel doors are pretty thick) , you’ve lost the element of surprise. If the shooter is armed to the teeth with automatic weapons, all he has to do is turn around and spray the doorway with gunfire as soon as you bust in. Then you’re down before you can even aim and pull the trigger and he can go back to his killing spree.

Being able to squeeze a shot off in time and hit him would be a minor miracle. Getting a shot off that incapacitates him would be a once in a lifetime stroke of good luck.

You have much better odds of winning the jackpot at most slot machines in Vegas than coming out of this scenario anything other than dead.
