I see a lot of bloggers claiming this but haven’t found a reliable report stating this. It would be unheard of, and despite all of the other incompetence, arguable malicious police misconduct in the case I find this bit almost impossible to believe. Likewise I believe Martin’s clothing still exist. There’s a Grand Jury convening next month, and there’s some things that are simply not done before that happens.

Of course I’d also never heard of an investigating officer contradicting a witness before, repeating a shooter’s version of events as if it were gospel.

No, I believe I heard it on TV the week of the event, maybe a day or two after the shooting. It added to the outrage, but if they accepted G.Z.’s explanation of self-defense, than it wouldn’t be an odd thing for the cops to let him have it.
