There was a beautiful cherry red airplane at Half Moon Bay airport the other morning - circa 1940s-50s - probably 2 seater (could have been four - long cockpit) - single prop. I almost stopped to take a pic for you so you could identify it. Looked a lot like the pic in your avatar, only less muscle-carish.
