Exactly. People who get immersed in a fictional universe are obsessed with all its tiny details, and go nuts whenever there’s a contradiction with canon. The Star Trek franchise has done a reasonably good job in creating a consistent future history, but it’s fiction, for pete’s sake. If all the previous series could go back in time to “fix things,” why can’t the new film series alter the timeline to create a whole new set of circumstances?
