I don’t think that’s necessarily the problem. They did vote for Cruz, after all. Cruz and Rubio are Cuban which Republicans seem to be okay with as a remnant of the Cold War. Plus, they say all the right things on social issues. And I don’t think Texas would suddenly go for Hillary Clinton if it’s Cruz or Rubio. But I don’t know enough about Texas as I’ve never spent more than 60 hours there.

I think what helps Cruz in Texas is while he is Latino, he speaks Evangelical language. If he were RCC, I bet he would be a hard sell. I don’t think Clinton versus Rubio would make Texas go blue either but I think it would be closer than if an Anglo Protestant topped the ticket.
