It is important not to overstate the influence of accelerationism in America. At present, it is an idea confined to a tiny fringe that has virtually no prospect of successfully toppling the US government or fomenting a race war.

The real problem is understating the danger posed by this rhetoric. The widespread acceptance by the Trump right of the “great replacement” theory is part and parcel of a neo-Nazi assault on our nation and just a step behind accelerationism. These people came close on January 6 to toppling the US government. They may not start with executions, but they indeed have been spreading their vile philosophy throughout this nation, including the dishonest attacks on CRT. A less violent race war is occurring at very moment, where minorities are losing their voting rights. Hitler did not start with extermination camps — and the Trumpsters I know have never expressed horror or outrage when “those people” are the ones who are dying.
