Ben Shapiro is mansplaining the Great Replacement Theory. Akshully, it’s about Jews, and since Tucker is talking about Black and brown people, it’s not the same, libtard.

Conservative podcaster Steve Bannon on Monday vowed not to back down in promoting a racist conspiracy theory that was allegedly cited by suspected Buffalo gunman Payton Gendron.

On his daily War Room: Pandemic podcast, Bannon insisted reports about the “replacement theory” were meant to distract the public. Bannon has previously promoted a French book that inspired the theory, which claims that white citizens are being replaced by immigrants.

“Of course, all of the morning shows are all over Tucker Carlson and a few others about the replacement theory,” Bannon complained. “They seem to miss the point. And here’s what we’re not going to back off on. For people who have followed this show from day one, we are inclusive nationalists. Right?”

“OK? So, this is not about race,” he continued. “This is about American citizenship! This is about the value of your citizens.”

Bannon said that he was “not backing off one inch” despite the shooting.

From the NYT:

BUFFALO — The accused gunman in the mass shooting in Buffalo had planned a prolonged massacre after attacking a Tops supermarket Saturday, according to the Buffalo police commissioner, who said that the attacker wanted “to continue his rampage.”

The commissioner, Joseph A. Gramaglia, told CNN on Monday morning that the suspect had spoken “about possibly going to another store,” after Tops, potentially turning his fire on “another large superstore.”

I really wonder why Peyton Gendron (OK, obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer) thought he was just going to be able to stroll off to another “superstore” after shooting up the TOPS market? Are body-armored loonies with ARs so common in Buffalo he thought no one would notice?

Of course Republicans are to blame for nearly everything, but Pelosi saying stuff like “we need a strong Republican Party” is not helpful.

What we need is for the Republican Party and all its works to go extinct, so that a legitimate two-party system might take the place of the shit show we now have.

ICE Is a Domestic Surveillance Agency

[2022.05.11] Georgetown has a new report ( americandragnet.org ) on the highly secretive bulk surveillance activities of ICE in the US:

When you think about government surveillance in the United States, you likely think of the National Security Agency or the FBI. You might even think of a powerful police agency, such as the New York Police Department. But unless you or someone you love has been targeted for deportation, you probably don’t immediately think of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This report argues that you should. Our two-year investigation, including hundreds of Freedom of Information Act requests and a comprehensive review of ICE’s contracting and procurement records, reveals that ICE now operates as a domestic surveillance agency. Since its founding in 2003, ICE has not only been building its own capacity to use surveillance to carry out deportations but has also played a key role in the federal government’s larger push to amass as much information as possible about all of our lives. By reaching into the digital records of state and local governments and buying databases with billions of data points from private companies, ICE has created a surveillance infrastructure that enables it to pull detailed dossiers on nearly anyone, seemingly at any time. In its efforts to arrest and deport, ICE has — without any judicial, legislative or public oversight — reached into datasets containing personal information about the vast majority of people living in the U.S., whose records can end up in the hands of immigration enforcement simply because they apply for driver’s licenses; drive on the roads; or sign up with their local utilities to get access to heat, water and electricity.

ICE has built its dragnet surveillance system by crossing legal and ethical lines, leveraging the trust that people place in state agencies and essential service providers, and exploiting the vulnerability of people who volunteer their information to reunite with their families. Despite the incredible scope and evident civil rights implications of ICE’s surveillance practices, the agency has managed to shroud those practices in near-total secrecy, evading enforcement of even the handful of laws and policies that could be invoked to impose limitations. Federal and state lawmakers, for the most part, have yet to confront this reality.

Daughter1 has started a campaign for an Alabama county’s commissioner slot. It was done simply to prevent a Republican from running unopposed, but it has focused her maniacal energy on politics. Part of that was to create a readable text of the plan FL Sen Rick Scott has produced as head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. In the absence of a national plan from Mitch McConnell or The NRC head, this is the plan for 2022.

I’ve posted an LGF page with the lengthy bullet list, which describes enough of the RWNJ’s intent to destroy the Federal government as it exists. Just the innocent-sounding “Sunset” requirement is a mechanism for ending Social Security, Medicare, Obamacare, and anything else a Republican majority could dare.

Business Insider: McConnell is increasingly clashing with pro-Trump GOPers who oppose US support for Ukraine against Russia

In a secret visit to Kyiv on Saturday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell pledged unwavering support for Ukraine in its war against the Russian invaders.
*snip*
Yet it’s a position that again places McConnell at odds with the pro-Trump, isolationist wing of the Republican Party with which he has clashed repeatedly.
*snip*
So far their hostility has not loosened McConnell’s hold over the Senate GOP. McConnell said that he expected that the Ukraine aid bill would be approved by the Senate on Wednesday.

Dear Mr Alito,

In a recent review of your immigration status we have determined that you have overstayed your short term tourist visa.

It also appears you have illegally obtained a US passport and have been working without legal authority in the US.

Please present yourself to the nearest ICE facility for pre expulsion detention.

Per a recent supreme court decision you may not appeal the factual basis of this order in the courts.

Yours sincerely,

When I was in the MidEast back in the 1970’s I met an Israeli who had traveled to Moscow to visit some of his relatives.

He said that they kept hinting about how they were cooking up a special treat to celebrate his visit. At dinner, once everybody was gathered and seated, the matriarch of the family beaming, dramatically brought in this huge serving plate of… steaming potatoes.

He said everybody was looking at him him to see his reaction. And all were crestfallen to see that there wasn’t much of a reaction at all.

He said that the matriarch asked why was he not reacting? After all they had been told that potatoes were as rare as oranges.

He responded that this was indeed true, potatoes were as rare as oranges in Israel. Because they also raise oranges in Israel.

And, of course there is a Yiddish ditty that goes (translated into English):

Sunday — potatoes
Monday — potatoes
Tuesday and Wednesday — potatoes
Thursday and Friday potatoes
But on Shabbes something special
A potato kugel!

So we haven’t received any paperwork on our car yet, and we bought it over 50 days ago. I called Kia finance and they said they hadn’t received anything from the dealership. Then, a half hour later, my wife calls and parties me in on a call with Chase Auto Loans who wants to know why we haven’t set up autopayment yet. So I made our first payment over the phone and now have a link to go set up our account.

Oh, and I noticed the bank is in Texas, so when we ended the call I told the agent, “Vote or Beto!” - she laughed and said she would because she likes him.

Bumped into this song a while ago.

As far as I can tell, this parody is _very_ _loosely_ based upon original temperance songs. However, it probably originated in the late 1950’s or early 1960s with the Chad Mitchell Trio.

I also find the original timing of this song fascinating. Coming on one hand, at the passing of the generation that put in place Prohibition. And on the other hand, at a time when many were assimilating the lessons of WW2, the Great Depression, and the continued urbanization of country.

There are multiple covers of this song on YouTube. I selected this one because it is relatively safe for work and is clear enough to hear the lyrics. There are different lyrics in the different versions and I find it amusing to listen for the differing verses.

According to recent internal polling released by the Greitens campaign, McCloskey is trailing dramatically in the GOP primary race, winning the votes of just five percent of surveyed voters. That tracks with information released by the partisan polling company the Trafalgar Group, whose March report also showed McCloskey at the bottom of the pack of ghouls running for the nomination.

Some onlookers might suggest that McCloskey’s dismal performance could be due to the fact that he has put forth no policy ideas aside from Gun, that he seems to have no qualifications to run for public office other than Gun, and that even all of his neighbors hate him and have long before Gun. But those people would be overlooking just how passionate Missouri voters are about Gun, leading to an inevitable conclusion: McCloskey is just a loser, and a deeply unlikable man.

For his part, McCloskey surely knows all of that. And that’s why he’s leaning into the one and only thing people seem to like about him, pitiful as it may be.

After all, if you want to win, you gotta stay on message. And that message is: Gun.

From the tweet:

It is important not to overstate the influence of accelerationism in America. At present, it is an idea confined to a tiny fringe that has virtually no prospect of successfully toppling the US government or fomenting a race war.

The real problem is understating the danger posed by this rhetoric. The widespread acceptance by the Trump right of the “great replacement” theory is part and parcel of a neo-Nazi assault on our nation and just a step behind accelerationism. These people came close on January 6 to toppling the US government. They may not start with executions, but they indeed have been spreading their vile philosophy throughout this nation, including the dishonest attacks on CRT. A less violent race war is occurring at very moment, where minorities are losing their voting rights. Hitler did not start with extermination camps — and the Trumpsters I know have never expressed horror or outrage when “those people” are the ones who are dying.

Ah. Two different things are being called accelerationism. What I’ve seen (from the left or from right wing liars pretending to be left) referred to as accelerationism is the offensively stupid thesis that the US needs to hit political rock bottom in the form of an extended period of Republican rule before people will “get it” enough to actually oppose Republicans.

I like to summarize this as: “Many of you will die but that’s a sacrifice I am willing to make.”

I thought about this while watching the eclipse last night. Nearly all news outlets and websites referred to the coming event (And similar in recent years) as an ominous ‘BLOOD MOON!’ Decades in the past, they were just called ‘lunar eclipses’. No breathless sensationalism, and my planetarium audiences back then were more curious than perturbed by them.

Now, they, and other natural events, are hyped in such a way that I feel many people are being led away from understanding science, and towards baseless fears. Is this accidental sensationalism, or part of the deliberate coarsening of society through questioning learning and secular worldviews.

EL PASO, Texas — The video was seen worldwide. An El Paso woman jumping into the spider monkey enclosure at the zoo and feeding two of the animals Cheetos in May 2021. For the woman in the video, the backlash was swift. She was arrested and lost her job at an El Paso law firm, and received harassment online from people concerned with the health of the monkeys. She now faces a pending criminal trespass case.

Her name is Luz “Lucy” Rae. A year later, she is working for a new law firm and claims she “did not do anything wrong” the day of the incident. She decided to sit down and speak with ABC-7 exclusively.

On May 22, 2021, Rae says she visited the El Paso zoo with a friend. That same day, another zoo guest videoed Rae climbing over a two-foot fence and entering the spider monkey enclosure, crossing a three-foot-deep moat, and feeding two of the monkeys Cheetos. She is then seen walking back through the moat and climbing out of the enclosure.

The 37-second video clip went viral across the world, making headlines all over the internet.

“I was shocked that someone had recorded it and shocked that it went viral,” Rae explained.

Rae would not answer why she decided to go into the enclosure that day. Her new boss, attorney Mark T. Davis, said there was a pending criminal lawsuit, and they did not want to talk about the incident, but she believes what happened was not a crime.

“Well, I don’t think I did anything wrong. I didn’t do anything wrong. I did not hurt anyone,” Rae said.

snip

Rae defends her actions for jumping in the enclosure, saying there was no signage that prohibited the action. Dr. Milne disagrees.

“In the society we live in, in general, a fence without a gate is a barrier that means you’re not supposed to go in there,” Dr. Milne said. The zoo decided to extend the height of the fence in one area of the enclosure.

El Paso police arrested Rae for criminal trespass. A spokesman for the department said the investigation into Rae’s case is still open, almost one year later. That means the district attorney’s office cannot prosecute the criminal trial until they are handed all the evidence and facts from police.

A spokesman for the zoo says Rae is currently not banned from entering the facility. The spokesman says the case is under litigation, and pending the outcome of a criminal case, a decision will be made after.

Rae says she has no plans of apologizing to the zoo for what happened. When asked if she learned any lessons from the incident and the fallout afterward, Rae responded, saying, “I learned just keep the Cheetos to myself. I can’t share.”

The wealthy have always exploited bigots to prevent government that would improve the lives of ordinary people, including those bigots, to keep labor desperate and cheap, so the things Musk is doing don’t surprise me at all. He’s just another exploitative billionaire, no better than the remaining Koch brother.

He did have a lot of success in selling electric cars to well off liberals who didn’t realize what he is. I hope those days are over.

I’ve been intentionally loading lots of applications and lots of windows in Chrome, and the M1 iMac is amazing; I can’t see any performance hit. My old Mac Pro’s internal fan used to spin up and make noise with a fraction of this CPU load, and you could see the system starting to lag on simple operations like scrolling windows, etc. I have yet to make the iMac even notice the load.

I used to have a copy of the US Army’s FM 7-7, Armoured Infantry Platoon and Squad Leader Guide. Had a lot of interesting info like how to use a DRAGON ATGM.

What I found concerning was the level it was written at. About Grade 8 English, and it was supposed to be for officers and NCOs.

Eighth-grade English is precisely the level we are taught to write. If they’re insulted, they can see the Chaplain. If they misunderstand it, a lot of soldiers die.

It’s not nearly as nice or as long as the one built for El Chapo Guzman’s escape from the Altiplano prison in 2015. While Guzman’s wasn’t as deep (33 feet) or as wide (30 inches) but it was 5 ft 7 inches tall and .93 miles long (way longer than this tunnel). It also had lights, air ducts and high-quality construction materials for its one use. Oh yeah, and a motorcycle was found in the tunnel.

I’d be curious to see how this tunnel compared to other tunnels dug in the area, because Guzman had a tunnel expert in his cartel. But hey, it’s just curiosity.

You’re welcome. Even though the tunnels are obviously expensive, the amount of money they could make from smuggling in probably makes up for the expense.

I find the use of tunnels interesting, but they are not the only way drugs get across the border. If there’s any way of getting drugs across, cartels have used it. Tanker trucks with false compartments. Trucks carrying food items in number 10 cans, but drugs are packed with the food. Railroad transportation from southern Mexico to across the border. Even this very creepy and unsettling take your car across the border, let someone you know take it away, then it comes back later. There are drugs everywhere in the car and then you’re supposed to drive it back over the border. But you know nothing, nothing. The whole thing gives me chills.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Buffalo man is under arrest, accused of making a terroristic threat.

According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, this surrounds threats Joseph S. Chowaniec allegedly made to a pizzeria on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo and to a brewery downtown.

Investigators say the 52-year-old called both businesses Sunday afternoon and made threats referencing Saturday’s mass shooting at the Tops Friendly Markets on Jefferson Avenue. 10 people lost their lives in that shooting, three people were injured.

Tried to install Debian Linux to give a current version a try. Many more headaches than I had with FreeBSD and the hardware and drivers (don’t get me going on GPL tonight.).

Ended up reinstalling Windows 11 and all my downloaded apps and try to rebuild from the stuff on my desktop. Lost the originals of the last couple of photo posts I made here - glad those copies exist at least. Also ended up back about a week on my budget spreadsheet as well.

Mostly fixed and still a great portable for as cheap as I got it even with the upgrades I’ve made.

What I’ve seen …referred to as accelerationism is the offensively stupid thesis that the US needs to hit political rock bottom in the form of an extended period of Republican rule before people will “get it” enough to actually oppose Republicans.

Problem with the notion of needing to hit rock bottom in order to recover is the fact that if the GOP is in power long enough they will fix it to stay there.

Look how close they came in 2020; even after a record Democratic turnout, it was still a close-run thing and is still being loudly and aggressively contested.

Seriously. All the COVID relief given out for the entirety of the pandemic until Labor Day 2021 when it stopped likely added to 0.25-0.5% of the current inflation. The rest of it is supply shock from COVID and oil prices due to Putin’s fuckery.

For the last time. The Fed doesn’t “print money”, that’s not how QE works. That’s not how deficit spending works. Not how the national debt works. Not how MONEY works.

That’s not how any of this works. The fact that Fed is raising interest rates to try to control this makes me wonder if some of them know how this works anymore, frankly. Watch for some serious deflation if we ever stop playing whack a mole with COVID variants.

Let me fire up the smoker, I got this.

Hawaii’s ongoing battle with thousands of feral chickens continues — and written testimonies and reports from local news outlets suggest it’s not going very well.
The Associated Press reported that in the past two months, the city and County of Honolulu set traps in five areas and have caught just 67 chickens, costing $7,000. That amounts to $104 per bird. The Associated Press says that catching chickens is costly because the traps are being vandalized and stolen, though it’s unclear who’s damaging them and why. Now, city officials are trying to address the public’s desperate pleas for help while figuring out a cost-effective solution.

The problem is so dire that a bill introduced in the Hawaii State Legislature sought to establish a state-funded program to address the feral chickens. Unfortunately for Oahu’s chicken-plagued residents, however, Senate Bill 2195 failed to advance.

According to written testimonies from Hawaii individuals responding to the proposed legislation recorded in early March, the “aggressive” chickens have “overtaken the community.” Residents say they’re damaging and defecating on properties, obstructing roads and roosting in mango trees while making loud “cackling” noises from dawn until dusk.

I am glad the family will have some sort of closure.

The remains of a 17-year-old Rochester girl were found in South Carolina last week more than a decade after vanished on a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach — and a man has been arrested for her murder, law enforcement officials announced Monday.

The body of Brittanee Drexel, who was reported missing on April 25, 2009, was discovered Wednesday in Georgetown County, not far from the popular vacation destination where she was last seen, the Georgetown County Sheriff said at a press conference Monday.

“This is truly a mother’s worst nightmare,” Brittanee’s mother Dawn Drexel said at the press conference.

“I’m mourning my beautiful daughter Brittanee as I have been for 13 years, but today it’s bittersweet. We are much closer to the closure and the peace that we have been desperately hoping for.”

I can personally testify that there are a lot of American families that love their guns more than they do their own children. I have more than once here at LGF told the story of my own childhood near-death experience with family and guns.

It stands to reason that other nations including Russia also are able to prioritize other things as greater in value than the lives of their own children. National pride, racism, misogyny, hatred for homosexuals, outsiders, immigrants, and a host of other things can be elevated over the life of a child. This is not a game.

We really don’t have any say in whether or not Putin remains in power, because we aren’t going to drive on Moscow to remove him. Only the Russians can remove Putin. As we saw in the Gulf War with Saddam, even a crushing military defeat is no guarantee that he will be overthrown.

As long as those deaths are people over 5 years old, it’ll be people who were already very sick, or people who were too stupid to get vaccinated. I believe we will not force Ukraine to compromise, though I don’t know how much military support we will provide if they have routed the Russian army and are besieging Sevastopol. Putin isn’t going to attack NATO because he has nothing left to attack with. I also believe he won’t use nukes because he doesn’t even know himself which, if any of them, actually work. The US spends $10 billion annually on nuclear weapon maintenance, and the Russian maintenance budget was probably stolen by its generals. I don’t think Putin is irrational; he just made a bad decision based on misinformation and his own hubris and prejudice against Ukraine.

The majority of Republicans in Congress still support Ukraine, so it depends after the midterms if the neocons and Democrats still outnumber the Trumpists. McConnell and Graham are mostly despicable, but they don’t worship Putin. Though I certainly hope the Ukrainians have routed the Russians well before the new Congress is seated.

Check out this craptastic poll question:

Are you more worried about the violence caused by white supremacists, or that immigrants are being brought in to weaken white power?

Morning Consult asked people to compare their fears over something that definitely does exist, with something that definitely does not. There are exactly zero politicians and zero policies designed to promote the conspiracy theory that Morning Consult pushed at people in their poll.

You might as well ask in a poll, “Are you more concerned about being hit by a bus, or by that massive killer asteroid now screaming toward Earth at a million miles an hour which will snuff out all life forever?” There’s a good chance the asteroid will rack up a lot of votes. That doesn’t make it an actual threat.

Or, to put it in terms that are more equivalent to what Morning Consult actually did, why not ask people, “Are you more concerned by violence committed in the U.S. by white supremacists, or by the $700,000 that the U.S. government gives to every Black person?” or, “Are you more concerned by violence committed in the U.S. by white supremacists, or by how Democrats are trying replace the current electorate with new, more obedient voters from the Third World.” The first of those is from the Buffalo shooter’s “manifesto.” The second is from a Tucker Carlson diatribe. They’re both the same thing as what Morning Consult actually used: a conspiracy theory fed to respondents without qualifiers and given the same weight as a genuine, ongoing threat.

And in an article on the injunction against most of the Alabama anti-trans bill, I found this nugget regarding our good friends Governor Abbott and Indicted Felon Paxton:

A DFPS employee with a transgender child who faced investigation sued, and the trial court granted an emergency injunction statewide. On Friday, the Texas Supreme Court voided the statewide injunction, which sounds BAD — and that’s what Paxton would like you to think. But in reality the court said an injunction was inappropriate because Paxton and Abbott never had the authority to unilaterally rewrite the law and order DFPS to enforce it. The plaintiffs in this case still get their injunction, and, although the court found that a statewide injunction was not appropriate on an emergency basis, presumably any Texas family facing an investigation will also be able to get an injunction.

Hitler felt his generals were failing him, and his one stroke of genius (in approving von Manstein’s plan of attack at Sedan, which won the Battle of France) was almost wiped out by his own incompetence, but the eventual win inflated his ego to the point where he demanded personal control of the entire German reserve, and refused to allow it to go into action on D-Day, costing Rommel and von Manstein their only chance to contain the breakout.

U.S. health regulators cleared for use a booster shot of the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE for children 5 to 11 years, expanding booster access to about 28 million youngsters.

The decision Tuesday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration permits a third dose of the shot at least five months after the second dose.

46% of Covid deaths in Kentucky, over 7,000, could’ve been prevented by vaccination, including my coworker who died December 26. Overall, the study found, Kentucky ranks fourth in the nation for its number of vaccine-preventable deaths per 1 million adults, behind Tennessee, Wyoming and West Virginia.

A ship with a monorail inside:

A Monorail system, moving at speeds up to 600 ft/min (3 m/s), transports cargo and supplies from storage and staging areas throughout the ship to a 13,600-square-foot (1,260 m2) well deck, which opens to the sea through huge gates in the ship’s stern. There, the cargo, troops and vehicles are loaded onto landing craft for transit to the beach. The air cushion landing craft can “fly” out of the dry well deck, or the well deck can be flooded so that conventional landing craft can float out on their way to the beach.en.wikipedia.org

how are the “Dems” supposed to do this?

i mean do, as in ‘accomplish’ this

Shaprio’s only conflict (similar to the mindset of Clarence Thomas and other well known malicious dirtbags) will be if he can manage the dangerous calculus of whether or not he can finagle his way into the graces of white supremacists and be able to achieve a level of power and success in the new upcoming racist regime… or fail in his political math and simply be fed to dogs.
