re: #99 iceweasel

Thanks Ice. I thought I’d seen his name invoked here before and that was probably why. I was intrigued by the article because it does bring up a very valid point I’ve been having trouble articulating.

Sadly as the term Nazi has been thrown about to tar any ideaology that anyone disagrees with it cheapens the horror of what Hitler’s Germany did (as pointed out by other Lizards). There is another more sublte side effect of the casual use of Nazi as a slur (and Commie too).

When governments move towards more centralized power and authority it does not automatically make them dictatorial. However, it does make the groud more fertile for dictatorship to grow. Conservative government (meaning small central government and individual freedom/responsibility) is fundamental to the long term fiscal and social health of our country IMO. It is hard to argue what is going on isn’t reminiscent of social movements prior to WWII in Europe and Asia that ended disasterously. But invoking Nazi or Commie as a cheap slur takes something very important away from the discourse and I’m not just talking civility.
