The funny part of this story is that even if the “backlog” excuse is real, then it certainly doesn’t make me feel any better. The Government requires a piece of information from the dealer/buyer in order to disburse funds. The dealer/buyer submit that info. and the Gov’t disburse the funds to the dealer. Any private company in the modern world could accomplish this basic transaction in minutes.
The Gov’t (which doesn’t even have to worry about profitability, for crying out loud) failed at this basic commercial task to the point that they were out of business before they even really began.
Remember this for Health Care, people. It will be much, much worse.

Clock is ticking on when the news breaks that a near-bankrupt dealer(s) submitted false claims to get the govt cash. After all, the govt is so good at tracking social security numbers, why would they get serious about VIN numbers?
