Watched VICE on the DVR last night and there was a story there about our old US industrial cities (focused mostly on Detroit, Cleveland and St Louis) and how they’re being sold for scrap to China. Both legal and illegal “scrappers” are taking apart old factories, schools, churches etc and selling them to scrap yards. Those scrap yards in turn are selling huge lots of scrap metals to China, who has several hundred people here driving all over the country and arranging the deals.

So, first the jobs went there, now the decay caused by the job losses is being made into new infrastructure for the Chinese. So if we ever get our shit together and try to rebuild ourselves, we may run into a shortage of materials we need because we’re selling it off to the highest Chinese bidder.

Yikes.
