Marriage conveys rights and obligations. It also allows people to get tax benefits (lower tax burdens by filing jointly), inheritance, health benefits, insurance benefits, and legal rights like say going into a hospital and getting HIPAA access to records and getting information from doctors on loved ones.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

But you knew all that - this guy just ignores what a civil marriage means to those who have one.

Thing is that gay marriage doesn’t affect anyone’s marriage one iota, but it means the world to those who could now get a SSM, just like hetero couples.
