The Tea Party relies heavily in platitudes like “small government”, “tax cuts” and “fiscal responsibility” because their leaders realize that, as soon as somebody make concrete budget proposals, the movement falls apart. You can’t cut defense (heresy!), since most tea partiers are Conservatives and favor the current wars. You can’t cut Medicare, because half the tea partiers either rely on it now or will very soon. Same for Social Security. And these are the big chunks of the Federal budgets.

Defending tax cuts is insanity at this point, and of course incompatible with “fiscal responsibility”.
