I am guessing they did not understand the filth that term had come to represent. It is an underground term, and that excuse is old, lame and thin to begin with. To granny, a tea bag is just that, a tea bag. I would thing they would be horrified to know what human filth turned that into what it is used as here. It is beyond disgusting.
