I’ve had similar observations. Trump does have a fairly high floor (higher than Bush’s) but he’s also gotten a low ceiling that will make re-election fairly difficult. OTOH he will have incumbency but I think that may play to his disadvantage different than a normal incumbent. His whole schtick to gettign elected in the first place was talking about how awful everything was and while the whole “Trump miracle” may work with the wingnuts, it may not work with other voters. I don’t know. I think we can beat him. I can’t see him increasing his popular vote tally.

Getting less votes doesn’t stop Republicans from winning elections.
