“Smart added that he has “mostly watched in silence for years as many LGBTQ individuals both in and out of the Church have been victims of ridicule, shunning, rejection and outright humiliation,” and said he could no longer deny that he was “numbered among them.”

Exactly, Mormon church has been down right cruel. I’m know, I’m ex-mormon lesbian in her 50s. I left the church and came out young, but my children had to suffer their homophobia every time they’d visit grandparents and hear it from LDS community.

This story is very common in the Mormon church where gay people marry and have kids just because they are told that’s the only way into the ‘celestial kingdom.’
It’s really sad and even reversing their Nov 15 anti-LGBT policy hasn’t changed anything at all - it’s still taught.— LDS Discussions (@LDSdiscussions) August 16, 2019
I can’t believe so many people are saying good for him. So screw the wife and family he hurt and lied to all these years??

Lots more Christian love in this thread.
To be fair, there are a lot of people offering words of encouragement and support in that thread. Most of them identify as ex-Mormon (my bet would be atheists now mostly).
