Yes, the consulate is a pain. Part of that is the number of fraudulent claim attempts made - some places worse than others, but a problem in all.

The consulate workers are a bunch of assholes. I remember when I went to get the U.S. citizenship application for my son. An old lady in line ahead of me was a Holocaust survivor who needed to know why she wasn’t receiving her Social Security check, which she lived on. She didn’t speak much English, I translated for her and helped her fill out the forms. The consulate clerk was a total ASSHOLE to her!
