re: #52 Stanley Sea

Jordan, are you here?

Just started the last Victoria episode. The opening scene is in Africa with the title “The Kingdom of Dahomey”

So as is usual while watching I go to google.

This connection to the story you posted blew me away.

From Wiki:

On Monday, July 9th, 1860, a schooner called “The Clotilda,” captained by William Foster arrived in the bay of Mobile, Alabama carrying the last known shipment of slaves to the US from the Dahomey Kingdom.

I am paused at the title, I will see where this story goes in relation to Victoria.

So I did some looking, and it appears the scuttled and burnt wreck of the Clotilda may have been found just last week! Here’s an article from al.com:

And here’s a video:

Wreck found by reporter may be last American slave ship, archaeologists say

Some serious excavating would have to be done to find if there are artifacts in the mud to link this wreck to the Clotilda. OH, and by the way, this run over to Africa to get some slaves and bring them back was done on a bet, because the slave trade was officially ended in 1808.
